FRAGILE FREEDOM – A STORY OF SURVIVAL, NOT CHOICE

  • Art Riot Collective, Fargo Village Far Gosford Street Coventry, England, CV1 5ED United Kingdom (map)

Exhibition dates: 15 May – 11 June 2026

Launch date: Thursday 14 May, 6–8pm – All welcome

This exhibition talks about the systems disabled people engage in and how they are not accessible and not human. The systems are designed to be de-humanising. Disabled people must fight to have a normal life. They are often told they are lucky to have the bare minimum. It features a hanging sculpture about restraint, a short film re-enacting a continuing healthcare review, and a focus on the decisions Munkyle has had to make over the years in relation to his care.

Artist Munkyle (1990) is a musician, poet and painter. His current practice combines all three to create complex emotional performances that reflect his feelings and experiences of life.

Consultancy and co-curation by Christopher Samuel and Jennifer Gilbert
