MANCHESTER CONTEMPORARY 2023

  • Manchester Central Windmill Street Manchester, M2 3GX United Kingdom (map)

I am taking part in Manchester Contemporary 2023 in November this year. This is my first time doing this fair, in my home town, which is the largest contemporary art fair in the UK outside of London.

It gives me great pleasure to share works by three very different artists: drawings and sculptures from British artist Kate Bradbury; drawings on LP covers from American artist CJ Pyle; and small animal leaf sculptures from Japanese artist Yoshihiro Watanabe. Follow the links from each artist’s names to their artist pages in order to learn more.

Kate Bradbury is a prolific creator of a diverse range of artworks from detailed drawings in black & white, to sculptures made from objects she finds. Intuitively working day and night, she creates her pieces losing all sense of time, getting lost in the details of her drawings or sculptures.

Yoshihiro Watanabe creates Oriha (folded leaves) with oak leaves he gathers in the early autumn. Oriha requires oak leaves that have just the right level of slight decay and moisture, and only Watanabe and his senses can detect that. Just the simple act of folding creates these representations of the natural world that are brimming with life and movement.

CJ Pyle has always been fascinated by portraiture, making up characters and bringing out different personalities with the way he portrays them in his own very distinctive style. He uses the reverse of LP record sleeves because he likes the texture of them and he thinks he gets the best reaction from his pens on that surface.

See you at the fair on booth 224.

Launch night: Friday 17 November, 5–9pm
Opening times: Saturday 18 November 10am–6pm, Sunday 19 November 10am–6pm
