AMID THE SILENT FLOWERS

LONDON-BASED WORKSHOPS OPPORTUNITY

Amid the Silent Flowers is Arts in Health creative embroidery series of workshops, for Gay men to safely explore their experiences and collective histories through reflective conversation and making. The workshops will provide an opportunity for social connections and the sharing and development of new skills, knowledge, and friendships.

Terence Wilde is a London-based Gay artist and educator, who creates artwork from the perspective of an adult survivor. Beginning life in the commercial fashion world, he now runs creative workshops for in-patients at a hospital, alongside making his own artwork. Terence will lightly facilitate, support, and encourage a small group of Gay men to delve into their inner worlds, which are so often used as retreats and survival mechanisms to cope in hostile environments. Terence has designed this group to help promote self-esteem by addressing how homophobia has affected Gay men's lives and to show the power of resilience for those affected.

The group will be held in a safe space at QUEERCIRCLE in London, where you will be able to openly explore the subtexts of your own dialogues away from common daily distractions. Sewing, by its very nature, is a soothing activity, with a strong element of repair, and therefore helpful in the healing process; especially within such a misunderstood and judged community as LGBTQIA+.

Through conversations, ideas raised will be translated into stitch, with pieces growing and developing as the months go on. The work will then be shown and celebrated with an open day event for all to attend at QUEERCIRCLE; highlighting the underlying roots and emotional experiences of a group of Gay men responding to a call out to make work together. This will feature any artworks created, as well as key issues raised from the groups including audio and quoted elements. It is hoped the group will continue after these initial workshops, should the demand be there. No previous stitch experience is necessary.
