Biography

Kazuyoshi Tsuruoka (b.1980) has been attending the Kobosyu studio since 1998. In the early days, he painted one of the studios wooden signs outside and seeig his enthusiasm, it was suggested to him he might like to try woodworking. Initially he would saw wood, paint it with his favourite colour, and stick it together, giving birth to a variety of creations of different sizes. Later, he began to add circles with marker pens to the surfaces. Starting with one or two circles, the number of circles he drew gradually increased. The colours of these repeatedly drawn circles were so vibrant and deep that they evolved to create an illusion of being drawn into another universe. He has now introduced a variation in the thickness of the markers used, depending on his mood, often using ultra-fine Posca pens for detail in some of his works.

A light brown skinned man sits at a desk working on a piece of wood with a bright pink pen. His long hair is tied back, with strands falling across his face. He smiles, wearing a white top.
