Full Biography

Marco Schmitt was born in 1986 and lives with his family in Trochtelfingen, Germany. He has been attending Atelier 5 in Germany since 2006, a centre for artists with mental and physical disabilities. His work portrays everyday objects on paper in simple lines and colour. The pictures and any text included are very much linked, for example the word ‘water’ is neatly placed above a blue strip filled in with a crayon. In his drawings Schmitt offers the audience the opportunity to construct stories from his various motifs and signs.

Schmitt’s works include motifs taken from such things as the weather, food and animals. Tirelessly, he captures his time and his environment. Schmitt’s linear compositions are also codes for the pleasure he gets from design. There is often humour in Schmitt’s work that can be noticed through the word choice placed on the pieces.
