Biography

Minori Takano (b.1996) joined the Kobosyu studio in 2015, initially focusing on weaving and then gradually transitioning to drawing. At first, she drew wave-like line drawings covering the paper, but she began to fill in the blanks with such vigour that they overflowed the initial small-size drawing paper. Because her strokes would protrude from the drawing paper, she began using larger paper underneath, and later began treating these larger works as her work. The overlapping powerful lines that protrude from the smaller paper she is working on, create works with exquisite colours that resemble fireworks on the larger paper.

She is currently focusing on drawing using Sakura Coupy pencils. She seems to like using bold, dark colours, often choosing red, purple, blue, and black and draws comfortably with large strokes. Each large piece takes approximately a month to complete. She works whilst listening to her favourite nursery rhymes on headphones. When she gets excited during her production, her body sways and she hums to the rhythm.
