“look here lets the viewer into these [the artists] experiences” | philadelphia
An article by Annabel Keenan about the ‘LOOK HERE’ show at Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery was featured in Brooklyn Rail online and in print in the November 2025 edition. ‘LOOK HERE’ showcases work from six artists working from the Center for Creative Works (CCW) progressive art studio in Philadelphia and it was co-curated by CCW artists Mary T. Bevlock and Paige Donovan, alongside British curator Jennifer Gilbert. A few snippets here share Annabel’s thoughts and key takeaways from the exhibition:
“To be fair, these artists—Kelly Brown, Cindy Gosselin, Clyde Henry, Tim Quinn, and Brandon Spicer-Crawley, along with Yu—might not be household names, but that they are lesser known is not the premise of the show. Rather, LOOK HERE celebrates creativity and tenacity, highlighting each person’s devotion to their crafts, which range from ceramics and mixed media sculptures to works on paper. The artists’ personalities come through in their work—the things that fascinate them and make them want to continue to create.”
“Additional booklets include texts from the artists themselves, featuring refreshingly straightforward and personal descriptions. Perhaps all curators can learn a thing or two from this approach that aims to clarify rather than obfuscate. In another welcome shift in convention, a bench for visitors to sit and watch a video of the artists working is positioned at an angle and to the side, rather than directly in front of the video, allowing those using wheelchairs to have prime seating. It’s a simple decision, but one that had a great impact on the viewing experience.”
