On 17 June 2021, Artnet listed Shinichi Sawada as one of five outstanding artists in their article on the New York exhibition ‘Super Rough’. Organised by the Outsider Art Fair and guest curated by contemporary artist Takashi Murakami - the show features over 60 outsider artists working in sculpture.

When talking about Sawada’s immediately recognisable style, the reviewer Ben Davis said,
“It evokes the frozen exaggerations of ceremonial masks or props for a festival of imagined creatures.”
