In The Art Newspaper on 26 March 2021, Tess Thackara sought out five artists for audiences to look out for in Art Basel: Pioneers - the fairs first online show of 2021. Shinichi Sawada was selected, his online presentation being a collaboration between Jennifer Lauren Gallery and Venus over Manhattan in New York.
Tess said, “Shinichi Sawada’s irresistible spiky ceramic creatures look like they might have emerged from the archeological dig of an ancient civilisation, and yet they also feel totally contemporary.”
