In Raw Vision Magazine #113 from 2023, Margate based writer Lucy Edematie interviewed Margate based artist Valerie Potter about her life and art. The article is a rich resource on many things that have influenced Valerie’s art practice and why she continues to create today. Read the full article as a PDF through the link below.

“Creativity has been so central to Potter’s life that she cannot conceive what she would have been without it. Recalling one of her early drawings that is titled Hail, Hail to All Those That Try but Fail, she says that she is interested in the psychology of failure and believes it should be on an equal par with success. It is vital that people try, and she would like to be known as someone who did. In Potter’s view, talent alone is not sufficient for success. One must possess determination, have the drive to go on when all else is crumbling, be immoveable. She concludes: “We can’t say that life has been easy because it hasn’t. I’m just lucky that I kept on going and things turned out well for me.””
