TAKASHI IGA
Biography
Takashi Iga was born in 1970 and began creating artwork in the 1990s. He has been with kiki!!CREATIVE in Japan since 2022, attending five days a week. Takashi is rather a quiet individual, although he is known to speak to himself throughout the day. He is best known for his cat illustrations, a long running series drawn with coloured pencils on kraft paper, using magazine pictures, photographs and other visual references for inspiration. Many images he uses for reference are posted on the wall in front of his workspace. Perhaps due to a remarkable photographic memory, he sometimes draws dozens of the same cat image each with slight variation. While grids or clouds are used as the background of some illustrations, polka dots also quite often appear. He likes to paint other paper to use as a backdrop for his cat drawings. Alongside cats he also enjoys drawing his interpretations of fashion images.
His work has been featured in various publications, including illustrations for newspaper columns.
