'Evolving Echoing Entities' | Frieze Top Ten Virtual Exhibitions | 2021

Nnena Kalu, Untitled vortex drawing

Mimu Chi wrote for Frieze in January 2021 about the top ten virtual exhibitions in the UK and Ireland right at that time. First listed was my Evolving Echoing Entities exhibition, which offered the viewer a chance to discover the inner voice of eight self-taught artists from around the world - from loud splashes of colour, to hummed repetitive strokes, to hushed delicate marks. Among the eight artists featured was Nnena Kalu, working out of ActionSpace in London, with one of her vortex drawings (as shown above).

When talking about the show Mimi said, “This hypnotic online exhibition at Jennifer Lauren Gallery opens onto the inner worlds of eight self-taught artists who use gestural marks, colour and repetition to cleave open hidden and unheard stories and ideas.”
